CBC and the homeless shelters we organize with are always in need of goods year-round.

Here’s a list of what we need most:

Toiletries and Hygiene Supplies

Keeping clean is hard when you don’t know when you’ll get your next shower. Everything from feminine hygiene products like pads and tampons to toothbrushes and toothpaste can make a world of difference. Soap, shampoo, razors and shaving cream, deodorant, baby wipes, combs, and brushes are also appreciated. Hypoallergenic products are best in case the recipients are allergic to things like perfumes or dyes.

Pantry Food

Because they don’t need to be refrigerated, foods that have a longer shelf life can help people stay fed and healthy until they can get back on their feet. Here are some healthy, affordable non-perishables to donate:

  • Canned or dry beans
  • Peanut butter or other nut butters
  • Rolled oats
  • Canned tuna and chicken in water
  • Rice, especially brown rice
  • Quinoa
  • Low- or no-sodium canned vegetables
  • Canned fruit in juice, rather than light or heavy syrup
  • Unsalted seeds and nuts
  • Shelf stable milk and milk substitutes (like coconut milk)
  • Whole grain pasta and low-sodium pasta sauce
  • Canned stews and soups, low-sodium if possible
  • Unsweetened apple sauce
  • Whole-grain, low-sugar cereals
  • Olive and canola oil
  • Dried fruits
  • Chicken, beef, and vegetable broths and stock
